Welcome to MyVeloFit's bike seat height calculator. Saddle height is one of the most important aspects of bicycle setup - get it right and you'll be comfortable and efficient. Get it wrong and at best you'll be uncomfortable and inefficient and at worst you'll risk serious injury. We built this tool to both help you get to your reasonable seat height but also understand all the variables involved in determining your saddle height. We strongly suggest you only use this method to get to a starting position and to a biomechanical assessment tool (such as our AI powered bike fit) to determine your ideal position.

Saddle Height is mm

Virtual Seat Tube Angle is °

How to Use The Ultimate Bicycle Seat Height Calculator:

Step 1

Measure from your hip bone to the floor and enter that measurement in centimeters on the first slider.

Step 2

Measure from your hip bone to the center of your knee and enter that measurement in centimeters on the second slider.

Step 3

Measure from your knee to your ankle and enter that measurement in centimeters on the third slider.

Step 4

Measure from your heel to your big toe and enter that measurement in centimeters on the fourth slider.

You'll now have a somewhat accurate idea of what your target seat height could be. But wait, there is more. You can also adjust your crank length, desired knee flexion and cleat position and see how that affects both your seat height and your virtual seat tube angle (from the bottom bracket to the center of your saddle). Feel free to play around with various inputs and see how your potential seat position changes.

Considerations: The first thing you'll notice with our Seat Height Calculator is that there is a vast range of potential seat heights that will work with your body. What this really shows is the true limitations of the majority of seat height calculators out there. Most of which take one to three leg measurements and out but a single number. This number doesn't take into account your flexibility, equipment or cleat position.

An Excellent Product!

I have been using myvelofit for just over one year in a large bicycle retail shop and I do about six to eight fittings per week. It is an excellent product that in the hands of an experienced fitter generates very in depth information about riding position and ranges of motion, comparable to other fit systems such as Retul.

FAQs

1What is the ideal seat height for my bike?
There is no single “ideal” seat height that works for everyone, as it depends on your individual leg length, flexibility, riding goals, and cleat position. However, our Bike Seat Height Calculator provides a scientifically grounded starting point by using your leg segment measurements and biomechanical principles. For a truly optimized fit, we recommend following up with a full AI-powered bike fit assessment to account for all variables.
2Why does seat height matter in cycling?
Seat height plays a critical role in your comfort, pedaling efficiency, and injury prevention. A seat that’s too low can cause knee pain and wasted energy, while a seat that’s too high can lead to hip rocking, lower back strain, and saddle discomfort. That’s why we created this tool—to help you find a seat height that supports better biomechanics and cycling performance.
3Can I use this calculator instead of a professional bike fit?
While our calculator is a powerful tool to estimate a good starting seat height, it should not replace a full bike fit. There are many variables beyond leg length—like flexibility, riding style, mobility, and posture—that impact your ideal position. For best results, we recommend using this calculator to get started, then refining your setup using our AI-powered bike fit system. Explore how posture and setup affect riding comfort: Getting Setup For Your Bike Fit
4Can I use MyVeloFit after trying a calculator?
Absolutely. Our system is designed to start where bike fit calculators leave off. Because it’s video based, MyVeloFit can take whatever position you’re in and provide personalized fit recommendations based on how you actually ride. You’ll get detailed adjustments that go far beyond static tools, allow you to iterate on your fit, and help you accomplish your bike fit goals. Want a true performance fit? Try our Smart Fit Tool
5Should I use a calculator when buying a new bike?
Yes—as a first step. A (good) calculator can help narrow down frame size options. While the gold standard for sizing is to do a bike fit first, MyVeloFit’s Virtal Fit First Sizing tool can get you as close as possible without being able to swing your leg over the bike. Best of all, its completely free.
6What factors influence bike seat height besides leg length?
Several factors affect your optimal seat height, including: • Cleat position • Crank length • Preferred knee angle • Foot length and pedaling style • Saddle shape and rail positioning • Mobility and flexibility levels Our calculator lets you adjust many of these variables to better understand how they influence your setup, making it a more dynamic and informative tool than most other seat height calculators.
